Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoo baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, softened at room temperature
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups (about 18 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)
  • Flaky sea salt (such as Maldon sea salt flakes, for finishing)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk or sift together the flour, baking soda, and table salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, use an electric hand mixer or the paddle attachment on a stand mixer to cream the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fully combined. This step ensures a rich and chewy texture.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract until the dough becomes light and fluffy.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cookies soft and tender.
  • Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
